GUIDES by Grade

Pre-Kindergarten
Children ages 2-5 are in a critical time for building foundational skills through play, exploration, and social interaction.

Unit I
Children in early elementary grades are in a critical developmental period where hands-on play, movement, and face-to-face interactions build essential cognitive, social, and physical skills.

Unit II
Children in grades 2 and 3 are curious, building critical thinking skills, developing stronger peer relationships, and increasingly capable of following rules.

Unit III
Children in grades 4 and 5 are gaining a deeper understanding of fairness, and they are balancing the desire to do things on their own while still needing your guidance.

Grade 6
Children in sixth grade are starting to see and define themselves outside of their family, and they are starting to care more about friendships and how they fit in socially.

Grades 7 & 8
Children in grades 7 and 8 are navigating one of the most complex social landscapes of their lives, and much of it is happening online.

Grades 9 & 10
Freshmen and sophomores are developing greater independence, forming their identity, and navigating increasingly complex social dynamics both online and offline.
Overall, general recommendations:
- No devices in bedrooms; have a common area for all devices to charge overnight.
- No smartphones before eighth grade.
- No social media before age 16.
- Set up parent controls to block notifications and autoplay.
- Have open conversations with your children about technology use.
