Class of 2026 Graduation

"When the tribulations of holding up a world feel too heavy, and hopes and dreams feel just too ambitious, remember the commitment, support, love, and countless hours of hard work that got you to this stage, and that will carry you into your next chapter," tribute speaker Nina Head '26 told her fellow graduates.

The Seven Hills School's 52nd commencement ceremony took place on May 29 at Cincinnati's Music Hall. Ninety-one graduates gathered in one of the city's most iconic landmarks to celebrate this milestone achievement, reflect on their Upper School years, and look ahead to the opportunities that await them.

Throughout the ceremony, speakers shared reflections and advice with the Class of 2026. Student government representatives Alisha Chaudhary '26 and Malcom Faison '26 delivered the welcome, followed by remarks from Board Chair Lair Kennedy and an introduction by Head of School Matthew Bolton. Tribute speakers included parent Brian Wiles, Upper School English teacher Mark Beyreis, and Class of 2026 graduate Nina Head.

This year's commencement speaker was lawyer, writer, political activist, former elected official, and adjunct professor David Pepper.

"Plot versus character. It's the character that drives everything," Pepper said. "That's not just true of books. That's true of politics, that's true of life. It's your character. It's not the career you pick or whatever path. It's the heart of you who you are, that is the most important part of your story and the stories of those you love."

The Upper School Chamber Ensemble performed the ballad "Sometimes," featuring a solo by graduate Lemuel Zyyon '26. Head of Upper School Rick Tate closed the ceremony with a farewell to the graduates.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

Science Spectacular

The first bi-annual Science Spectacular was an incredible display of curiosity, innovation, and exploration!

Middle and Upper School students led booths for our Early and Lower School students to take part in science-related activities, such as painting with light, extracting DNA from a strawberry, building and launching paper rockets, nature hikes, and so much more. Students received a passport stamp for each station and could enter a raffle with their completed passport.

Intensives Across Divisions

From May Terms in Upper School to Cultural Connections at Doherty, students immersed themselves in their learning.

May Term

After visiting Cincinnati landmarks, building their own furniture, cooking new cuisine, and exploring Red River Gorge in Kentucky, Upper Schoolers wrapped up their May Terms. The May Term Intensives Program provides students with a week-long immersive learning experience. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors took part in one of 17 May Terms with topics ranging from animal behavior to service learning to trips abroad.

Global Education Day

A world of adventure without leaving campus — that’s the promise of Global Education Day! The annual Middle School tradition kicked off with a morning full of immersive, globally minded lessons delivered by specialists from the community. In the afternoon, students enjoyed the beautiful weather as they competed in their SWARMS for an epic “Amazing Race”-style competition. It was a great day full of learning, teamwork, and fun!

Asia Day

The Middle School continued its decades-long tradition of Asia Day — an immersive experience that celebrates countries like Indonesia, South Korea, and India and encapsulates the sixth graders' extensive study of Asia over the past couple of weeks. On May 22, students could participate in various activities representing different pieces of Asian culture, including henna, yoga, cricket, and a food tasting.

"Our annual Asia Day is curriculum-based, but it’s a day of fun,” said Middle School teacher Andy McGarvey. “I hope the students walk away from Asia Day with an appreciation of different cultures.”

First Grade Plant Sale

In mid-May, a bustling plant marketplace was nestled between the track and Lotspeich. First graders ran registers, helped customers (friends, families, and teachers) decide on the perfect plant, answered questions, and managed the raffle and craft station. The first-grade plant sale is one Lotspeich’s annual science and Project Math end-of-the-year events. In the weeks prior to the plant sale, first graders learned how to grow the plants they’d eventually sell, practiced math they’d use at the register, and customer service skills.

Cultural Connections

Doherty Airlines flight took off with the pre-kindergartners to Cultural Connections destination: Scotland. With the help of numerous Doherty teachers and Seven Hills faculty and staff, the students learned about airports and international travel as they got their tickets and passports checked, went through security, were treated to an in-flight movie and snack, and went through customs once they arrived in Scotland.

As part of Cultural Connections Week, students learned about Scottish dancing, music, and bagpipes. Doherty welcomed the Cincinnati Highland Dancers, who explained the history and steps of Highland dancing before performing for the students to bagpipes being played by former Doherty and current Upper School parent Christopher McLennan. McLennan taught students about the bagpipes, including the different parts of the instrument and how it is played. Multiple students joined the dancers onstage and tested their dancing skills.

Additionally, Unit II students researched the landmarks, culture, or sports of Scotland. One group learned that Scotland is the birthplace of golf and created their own clubs and golfballs. Other groups learned about fairy pools, Scottish foods, archaeological site Skara Brae, and the bridge used in the Harry Potter movies. The students made posters together in groups and used them to present their findings and educate their classmates.
